GL Garrad Hassan North America is looking to recruit a Wave and Tidal Turbine Engineer for the marine Renewable Energies team responsible for leading technical analysis of marine (wave, tidal, and ocean current) energy projects in North America and take a significant role in business development efforts for marine energy work for GL Garrad Hassan North America. The Wave and Tidal Turbine Engineer will work, both collaboratively with others on the team and autonomously as a key representative of this team in North America. This position is also responsible for a wide range of engineering duties in support of the Wind Turbine Group, and other areas as the need may arise.
This position can be based in either GL Garrad Hassan North America’s Portland, OR or San Diego, CA with the willingness and availability to travel up to 25% of the time for periods of a week or more at a time.

Duties: |
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Supporting wave, tidal, and current energy device developers in the assessment of new concepts, provision of loading and performance calculations, and analysis of measured data;
•Supporting project developers in the design and optimization of layouts for marine energy farms;
•Technology reviews for investors;
•Resource studies for policy makers and other strategic stakeholders;
•Writing technical reports and communicating results to clients; and
•Supporting the Wind Turbine Group in the due diligence process as needed.
Other duties for this position will include working independently to research information and interview clients to support the process of writing technical documents for the IE and Turbine Group.
The turbine Engineer will be required to interface with clients to communicate comments or technical opinions from GL Garrad Hassan North America IE and Turbine Group.

Qualifications: |
TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
•A solid understanding of marine energy fundamentals and measurement techniques;
•A thorough understanding of hydrodynamics and fluid-structure interactions;
•Fluency in programming languages (MATLAB, Simulink) preferred;
•Aptitude in working with and/or the statistical analysis of data;
•Proficiency with MS Office Word/Excel/Access; and
•Strong overall computer skills and ability to learn multiple software tools.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
•Degree in mechanical, structural or other relevant engineering field. Master’s degree preferred; and
•Previous experience in wave, tidal, or current energy technology development and/or resource analysis preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
•Able to climb turbines approximately 80 meters in height.
