Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Resiliency and Sustainability, this position is responsible for advancing NOPECs organizational and community-level sustainability initiatives. The Sustainability Coordinator supports the integration of sustainability and resiliency principles across programs, partnerships, and operations to help member communities transition toward a more equitable, low-carbon future.
The position supports NOPECs Net-Zero 2050 Pathway Plan, community technical assistance programs, and peer-learning initiatives while providing strong coordination, research, and administrative support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Illustrative duties may include, but are not restricted to, one or more of the following:

  • Support sustainability, energy, and resiliency programs and initiatives.
  • Provide scheduling, meeting coordination, track follow-ups, event support, and documentation.
  • Assist with data collection, research, analysis, and presentation to support strategic decision-making and impact measurement for sustainability and resiliency programs.
  • Support community outreach, workshops, and peer-learning cohorts.
  • Support projects, manage timelines, track progress, and coordinate logistics for events and initiatives.
  • Assist with data collection, research, presentation, policy briefs, and reporting.
  • Support the S.T.A.R. (Sustainable Technical Assistance Resources) program and other peer-learning or technical-support cohorts.
  • Assist in the preparation of NOPECs annual sustainability reports, grant proposals, and performance dashboards.

Specialization Tracks:

Candidates may apply if they demonstrate experience or a strong interest in one or more of the following focus areas. While the role is not limited to a single track, candidates will be encouraged to identify a primary area of specialization.

Track 1: Sustainability Communication and Data-Informed Storytelling

  • Use data to support clear, compelling sustainability narratives for internal and external audiences.
  • Develop communication materials, blogs, summaries, update dashboards, and case studies.
  • Research national and regional trends in sustainability, climate, and energy.
  • Support community outreach, educational initiatives, and stakeholder storytelling efforts.

Track 2: Energy Systems, Data Analysis & Net-Zero Strategy

  • Support to collect, manage, and analyze data related to community energy use, emissions, and renewable energy potential.
  • Support decarbonization progress tracking for NOPECs Net-Zero 2050 Pathway.
  • Coordinate with consultants and partners on data requests (greenhouse gas inventories, fleet and facility assessments), and solar site evaluations.

Track 3: Climate Action Planning & Resiliency

  • Support communities that are developing or updating climate action and resiliency plans.
  • Assist with greenhouse gas inventories, vulnerability assessments, and resilience strategies.
  • Facilitate cross-community learning and coordination around equitable climate solutions.
  • Familiarity with global frameworks (e.g., UN SDGs, ESG frameworks).

Physical Requirements

  • Sitting, standing, and bending.
  • Ability to use office equipment, including but not limited to office copier, shredder, computer equipment, and audio/visual equipment.
  • Ability to speak in a clear and easily comprehensible manner.

Background and Skills

  • Bachelors degree in Environmental Sciences, Urban Studies, Education, Sustainability Studies, Architecture, Public Administration, Public Policy, Engineering, Physical Science, Energy, Natural Science, Biological Science, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
  • 35 years of relevant professional experience (Including internships and graduate studies)
  • Experience, ideally in nonprofit or similar settings, with a focus on complex environments and diverse communities.
  • Exceptional ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and details.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, with high integrity and confidentiality.
  • Expertise in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook) and data management tools.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting sustainability, resiliency, or clean-energy projects.
  • Willingness to travel within Northeast Ohio for community and partner engagements.

Working Conditions

  • Incumbent will work in a hybrid office environment. Incumbent should understand the expectation that this job periodically requires a 40+ hour per week commitment.
