Project Controller

Location: Columbus, OH (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)

Duration: 6-Month Contract-to-Hire

Compensation: $48.50–$54.30/hour | Equivalent to ~$100,880 – $112,944/year

W2 – Full Benefits: Health, Dental, Vision, 401K Match (4%), Paid Time Off (accrued)

Team Size: 25+ cross-functional stakeholders

About the Role

Our client, a Fortune 200 organization in the energy sector, is seeking an experienced Project Controller to join their enterprise IT PMO. This role plays a critical part in ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and control across large-scale IT and business initiatives. You’ll work closely with project leadership to manage resource and cost plans, reconcile budgets, track vendor spend, and maintain compliance with corporate financial policies.


This is a high-visibility position within a dynamic, fast-paced environment where attention to detail and financial rigor are key.


What You’ll Do

  • Set up and maintain updates to project resource and cost plans in ServiceNow based on direction from project leadership
  • Develop and present estimates derived from resource and cost plans
  • Manage the monthly present estimate process to keep financial data accurate and up to date
  • Reconcile budgets to actual expenses to ensure financial alignment
  • Assist in creating Project Change Requests (PCRs) and generate related reports
  • Create vendor purchase orders (POs) based on statement of work (SOW) details
  • Track costs to ensure compliance with IT capital policy
  • Monitor vendor contracts, SOWs, POs, invoices, and accruals
  • Track project-related accruals including services, software, and related expenses
  • Reconcile internal resource plans to timecards for accurate labor tracking
  • Reconcile external resource plans to vendor invoices for proper billing validation
  • Approve vendor invoices after confirming accuracy against SOW and time reporting reconciliation


What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience managing projects across both IT and business functions
  • Proven success leading large, complex projects involving internal and external teams with mixed labor and non-labor cost components
  • Strong expertise in project cost management and resource capacity planning
  • Proficiency in business process analysis and mapping
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Superior troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, able to work in fast-paced environments
  • Experience operating in a metrics-driven management environment with a focus on continuous improvement

  • Agile certification (PSM or PSPO)
  • ITIL v3 or v4 certification
  • Familiarity with the energy industry
