POSITION DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Staff Accountant
Department: Finance
FLSA: Exempt
Reports to: Controller
Date: January 2026
General Purpose:
The Staff Accountant supports the financial operations of the organization by performing daily, monthly, and annual accounting tasks with accuracy and attention to detail. This role prepares journal entries, reconciles accounts, assists with accounts payable and cash receipts processes, and provides essential support to the Controller and Assistant Controller. The Staff Accountant ensures the integrity of financial data and contributes to the efficient functioning of the Finance Department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
-Prepare and record monthly, quarterly, and year-end journal entries.
-Reconcile bank statements and ensure timely resolution of reconciling items.
-Perform reconciliations of various general ledger accounts, including prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accruals, and other balance sheet accounts.
-Act as a backup to the accounts payable process, including invoice review, coding, and vendor communication.
-Support the cash receipts process when needed, including deposit preparation, and internal cash handling procedures.
-Maintain organized and accurate financial records in accordance with organizational policies and GAAP standards applicable to non-profit organizations.
-Assist in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities.
-Support audits by preparing schedules, gathering documentation, and responding to auditor requests.
-Collaborate with the Controller and Assistant Controller on special projects and process improvements.
-Perform other duties as assigned to support the Finance Department.
Qualifications:
A. Required Skills and Qualifications
▪ Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required.
-1–3 years of accounting experience preferred; non-profit or healthcare/CCRC experience a plus.
-Proficiency in accounting software (Matrixcare – preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
-Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
-Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate sound judgment.
B. Essential Physical Demands and Working Environment
▪ Ability to see, communicate, hear and utilize electronic communication devices.
▪ Office and facilities work environment.
▪ Minimal local travel between company sites from time to time
▪ Operation of numerous accounting software and ability to learn and implement new software
▪ Ability to lift, push, pull and carry up to 25 lbs.
