Opening Summary:

Franke’s Wood Products is a family-owned and operated manufacturer and distributor of high-quality wood pallets, crates, and other industrial wood packaging solutions. We are seeking a full-time Industrial Packaging Engineer to join our Ohio-based operations team. This role will focus on the design, analysis, and continuous improvement of wood-based transport packaging solutions—including pallets, crates, and custom skids—for a diverse range of industrial clients The Industrial Packaging Engineer is a salaried position with benefits-(shown below) and will start at $80,000 - $110,000 based on experience with the possibility of a yearly bonus based on performance. This is a first shift position (8:00 a.m. – 4 p.m.) M-F with the possibility of it becoming a "hybrid" position.


Must be authorized to work in the USA.

Qualifications/Requirements for the Industrial Packaging Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent work experience)
  • 3+ years of experience designing wood-based packaging for industrial or heavy-duty transport applications.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks for design and drafting.
  • Experience with industrial packaging in manufacturing sectors common to Ohio, such as automotive, aerospace, or steel.
  • Knowledge of wood properties, structural loading, and mechanical fasteners used in packaging.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems for BOM management or work order generation.
  • Ability to work hands-on with shop floor personnel and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.


Position Summary: This role will focus on the design, analysis, and continuous improvement of wood-based transport packaging solutions—including pallets, crates, and custom skids—for a diverse range of industrial clients. The successful candidate will support design standardization, compliance, and production integration, with a strong focus on structural performance and cost-efficiency.

Industrial Packaging Engineer's Core Responsibilities: (Included, but not limited to)

  • Engineer structural packaging solutions using wood materials for various load and handling requirements.
  • Develop and maintain CAD drawings, specifications, and BOMs using industry-standard software.
  • Ability and experience reducing CAD complexity for seamless transition from design to production
  • Experience working with production for First Article Inspections of new designs and QA
  • Conduct load analysis and packaging stress testing (theoretical or physical) to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
  • Collaborate closely with production teams in Ohio and regional customers to develop and implement packaging designs.
  • Lead or support packaging evaluations, trials, and customer presentations as required.
  • Travel to local and regional customer sites or vendors for packaging audits, design validation, and field support (approx. 10–20%).
