Production Manager Job Function Statement
Title: Production Manager
Reports To: MPC Director of Operations
Position Summary
The Production Manager is responsible for the overall quality and delivery of products and for all aspects of day-to-day production activities to meet customer requirements.
Managing Workflow
- Plans and directs day-to-day production operations.
- Serves as the go-to person for all events that impact production.
- Troubleshoots problems and answers questions that interfere with productivity.
- Supervises production personnel directly and through team leaders to meet or exceed objectives in safety, quality, on-time delivery, productivity, process improvement, and waste reduction.
- Works with the General Manager to establish staffing levels for all production departments.
- Prepares work schedules, assigns manpower, authorizes overtime, and controls costs to achieve goals.
- Communicates clearly with all stakeholders regarding promised delivery times and any required adjustments.
- Works with customer service and sales on expedite requests while accommodating customer needs whenever possible.
- Ensures job time and material information is accurately reported in the ERP system.
- Resolves issues preventing timely closing of production orders.

- Provides leadership that builds a cohesive, engaged, and motivated team.
- Strives to maintain a positive work environment consistent with MPC and Horizons culture.
- Acts as a coach, facilitator, and teacher focused on quality, delivery, and profitability.

- Recommends compensation changes and manages rewards, discipline, and employee relations.
- Exercises hiring authority under the guidance of the MPC Director of Operations.
- Works with HR on interviewing, hiring, and onboarding.
- Approves paid time off and worked time for hourly production employees in the time and attendance system.
Quality, Productivity, Continuous Improvement & Safety
- Monitors production quantity and quality throughout the day and makes adjustments as needed.
- Ensures employee conformance to established procedures and quality standards.
- Documents standard operating procedures as required.
- Reviews quality and production issues and participates in root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Works with the Corporate Quality Assurance Manager and MPC Quality Technician to improve quality outcomes.
- Produces and maintains performance measures related to delivery, quality, and productivity.
- Leads team-based problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Encourages use of formal problem-solving techniques and lean tools.
- Applies entrepreneurial thinking to develop unique corrective actions.
- Acts as a change agent for technological advancements and site improvements.
- Champions and participates in all company safety programs.
- Monitors work practices to ensure safe execution.
- Works with the safety team to promote and improve shop safety programs.
Other Duties
- Participates in business unit management teams to support strategic plans, budgets, and goals.
- Coordinates with other MPC teams, Custom Product Group divisions, and Horizons corporate resources.
- Carries out special projects as assigned.
