Job DescriptionHealth Information TechnicianJob Summary:
Responsible for organizing, maintaining, and protecting medical records while ensuring accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality in accordance with regulatory standards.Key Duties:
- Review medical records for completeness, signatures, and required documentation
- Prepare charts for new admissions and process health information forms
- File, retrieve, and maintain medical records in electronic or paper systems
- Compile and type routine statistical reports (census, admissions, discharges, length of stay, Medicaid days)
- Provide medical record information when requests are appropriate and authorized
- Coordinate with other departments regarding medical record procedures
- Ensure compliance with confidentiality laws and medical record regulations
Requirements:
- Coursework or experience in records management, medical terminology, and typing
- Knowledge of medical terminology and confidentiality standards
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to proofread and identify missing or incorrect information
