Summary of Position:
The Clinical and Community Educator is directly responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating continuing education programs for staff, volunteers, contracted providers, the healthcare community, and the public. The Clinical and Community Educator also conducts new employee orientation and supports staff in their first 90 days. The Clinical and Community Educator will be an active member of the Leadership Team.

- Shall have a valid driver’s license.

- Detail-oriented with excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to work independently without supervision.
- Travel to other sites as needed. Travel may be in inclement weather.
- Ability to lift 25 lbs. of supplies or equipment.
- Requires various amounts of sitting, standing, twisting, turning, bending, lifting, and walking.
Responsibilities of Position:
- Assist with the development and implementation of Agency policies and procedures.
- Manage departmental budget and control expenditures.
- Assist with developing departmental vision, goals, and implementation plan.
- Build and maintain an effective team.
- Participate in the Agency survey. (i.e., Ohio, Joint Commission, Finance, etc.).
- Conduct new employee orientation. Support new hires through the first 90 days.
- Design, implement, and evaluate agency-wide continuing education plan annually based on identified individual needs, performance improvement activities, and education required by law, policy, or accrediting bodies.
- Facilitate and/or provide in-services to staff and to contracted facilities, annually and as needed.
- Coordinate and/or provide educational opportunities to the healthcare community and public.
- During orientation, monitor quality of care and appropriateness of care provided in all settings, whether that is in the patient’s home, skilled nursing, or assisted living setting.
- Monitor clinical documentation for timeliness, appropriateness, and compliance with Agency policy, accreditation bodies, and governing requirements.
- Maintain complete and accurate orientation records to be placed in the employee’s education file.
- Make supervisory visits to evaluate staff competency annually and as needed.
- Develop and maintain up-to-date patient/family educational handouts.
- Develop and maintain a preceptor program.
- Prepare staff for the Hospice and Palliative Care certifications.
- Participate in IDG meetings and provide education as needed.
- Collaborate with the Schools of Nursing and local high schools to coordinate job shadowing and preceptors.
- Create and distribute employee resource materials.
- Complete competency evaluations for staff annually.
- Participate in visits as needed.
- Participate in administrative on-call rotation, which includes evening and weekend hours.
- Complete all documentation as required by the organization in compliance with Agency policy, accreditation bodies, and governing requirements.
- Ensure compliance with hospice aide certification requirements.
- Administration of tuberculosis screening
- Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing.
- Current RN licensure in the State of Ohio and the eligibility to obtain licensure in the state of Indiana, or current RN licensure in the State of Indiana and the eligibility to obtain licensure in the State of Ohio.
- Minimum of three years of experience in Medical/Surgical, Oncology, or community health nursing.
- Hospice experience preferred.
- Management experience preferred.
