This role is a planned succession hire, created to replace a highly respected attorney retiring after a successful tenure—offering continuity, mentorship, and a smooth transition into a well-established legal function.

The OpportunityReporting to senior legal leadership, the Associate Counsel will provide legal support and day-to-day counsel across a broad range of healthcare-related matters, supporting hospital operations and affiliated entities.Key Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research and analysis related to contracts, regulatory compliance, and potential disputes
- Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of agreements supporting hospital and affiliate operations
- Assist in developing and updating policies and procedures related to operational and legal requirements
- Provide timely, practical legal advice to departments across the health system
- Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders including human resources, finance, and medical staff
- Support special projects and initiatives as directed by senior legal leadership
What You’ll Bring
- Working knowledge of Ohio and federal healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, and Medicare/Medicaid
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills with the ability to deliver clear, actionable guidance
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred:
- Physician contracting
- Corporate transactions
- Corporate governance
- Patient privacy
- Consent laws involving minors
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law in Ohio or eligible for admission
- Minimum of 5 years of legal experience; healthcare-focused experience strongly preferred
- Prior in-house experience is a plus, particularly within a healthcare organization, but not required
