Trinity Lutheran Seminary seeks a dynamic Graduate Admissions Counselor for Seminary Discernment. This Counselor will play a vital role in guiding a variety of qualified prospective students through both spiritual and educational discernment as they explore seminary study. The Graduate Admissions Counselor will report to the Dean of the Seminary and will work closely with other Admissions Recruiters. They will be responsible for seeking out prospective students, accompanying them through and processing their application. The Graduate Admissions Counselor for Seminary Discernment will develop and execute innovative tactics to proactively engage and yield prospective students to meet strategic enrollment goals. In addition, they will assist in the development of communications and marketing materials. They will plan, implement, and attend external recruitment events for the ELCA and other local denominational events, as well as on-campus events. The ideal candidate will have an MDiv or MTS degree (or equivalent), strong interpersonal and communication skills, a student-centered ethic, and demonstrates success in goal-setting and discernment. This position requires occasional travel, and limited weekend and evening work may be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Accompany prospective students in a process of spiritual and educational discernment.
  • Travel to local, regional, and national ELCA and ecumenical events for the purposes of recruitment.
  • Counsel and guide inquiries and applicants on seminary-specific content, from the point of inquiry or referral through orientation.
  • Work with Graduate Admissions to ensure application processes are completed efficiently.
  • Connect with Columbus and greater-Ohio ELCA churches for the purposes of recruitment.
  • Connect with local ecumenical churches/communities for the purposes of recruitment.
  • Run a team of part-time recruiters from local ecumenical and ELCA churches.
  • Work with ELCA synods and candidacy committees to aid in helping prospective candidates discern their call and preparedness for seminary study.
  • Establish and run seminary-specific recruiting and discernment events.
  • Coordinate outreach efforts with the Graduate Admissions team to ensure leads and inquiries are being processed correctly and contacted in the appropriate timeframe.
  • Coordinate travel opportunities with the Director of Congregational Engagement and Advancement for the purposes of recruitment and discernment.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to manage and recruit prospective students to meet enrollment goals.
  • Ability to counsel and guide prospective and accepted students by accessing and providing information relevant to the admission and enrollment process.
  • Demonstrated success taking initiative, collaboratively setting and attaining performance goals, working without close supervision, and managing multiple priorities under deadlines.
  • Strong student-centered ethic and customer service orientation.
  • Ability to work professionally with others as part of a team, be adaptable, and work well with diverse co-workers and partners.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of constituents, including senior organizational leaders, public groups, and people from diverse cultures, denominations, and worldviews.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office Suite, ability to develop marketing materials, and familiarity with CRMs.
  • Willingness and ability to travel; some weekend and evening work required.
  • Knowledge of or ability to develop an understanding of the ELCA candidacy process and how said process affects interested applicants.
  • MDiv / MTS or equivalent degree required; ministry experience preferred.
