DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Proficient in all major production roles, machines and equipment.
  2. Provide support and fill in as needed in different production roles and areas (e.g., vacant position, teammate absence, hotspots to increase productivity/eliminate bottlenecks, etc.).
  3. Train new teammates on different production roles, including operation of machines/equipment, processes, safety, quality, and productivity standards.
  4. Ensure proper machine/equipment functioning and adherence to safety protocols.
  5. Follow established production procedures and guidelines to ensure quality standards and efficiency.
  6. Maintain a clean and organized work area, including equipment, tools, and materials.
  7. Collaborate with teammates and supervisors to meet production targets and resolve production-related issues.
  8. Comply with all safety regulations and practices to maintain a safe working environment.
  9. Continuously seek opportunities to improve processes, suggest ideas, and contribute to the overall success of the production area.
  10. Travel within the region to assist other plants as needed.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficient in operating all major machines/equipment and production functions throughout the plant
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, and quality standards
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to different production tasks and roles
  • Ability to effectively train others on processes and procedures
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately follow instructions
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate machinery, crane, and forklift
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with safety rules and requirements
  • Ability to accurately use tape measures, Rockwell tester, micrometers and calipers
  • Ability to read and understand material tags and production instructions
  • Ability to correctly retrieve and input data into a computer
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with teammates and supervisors
  • Critical thinking skills

  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed
  • Ability to travel within region up to 20% of time as needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to routinely climb stairs, ladders, or platforms
  • Ability to routinely twist, bend, stoop, and squat
  • Ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to repetitively reach and grasp
  • Ability to frequently lift, pish, and/or pull up to 50lbs, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75lbs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

A high school diploma or GED with at least 5 years of Steel Technologies machine operator experience is preferred. Forklift and/or crane certification is required. Formal education may be substituted with experience and training when competency in the position is demonstrated.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This is a safety sensitive position. This work is performed in a manufacturing setting with moderate to high levels of noise due to machinery and equipment processes. The temperature of the facility will vary based on the outside weather conditions. This position requires the use of personal protective equipment for safety compliance and may include overtime as deemed necessary by management.
