Position Overview

The Safety and Security Specialist is responsible for developing, delivering, and evaluating comprehensive safety and security training programs. This role ensures that all employees are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to maintain a safe and secure work environment, comply with company policies, and adhere to relevant regulations. Additionally this role will be responsible for identifying potential hazards, conducting risk assessments, enforcing safety and security protocols, and responding to incidents as directed by the safety and security manager.


Key Responsibilities:


Training Program Development

  • Work with the safety and security manager, training leads, and other stakeholders to develop engaging and effective safety and security training materials, including presentations, handouts, and practical exercises.

Training Delivery

  • Conduct training sessions for new hires and existing employees on a variety of safety and security topics, utilizing various instructional techniques.

Curriculum Management:

  • Maintain and update training curriculum to reflect changes in regulations, company policies, and industry best practices.
  • Ensure all training programs comply with local, state, and federal safety and security regulations (e.g., OSHA, NFPA,DEA).

Evaluation and Improvement:

  • Collaborate with the Safety and Security Manager and department heads to identify training needs and gaps.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through feedback, assessments, and performance metrics, and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Maintain accurate records of all training activities, including attendance, completion rates, and assessment results.

Security Management:

  • Monitor physical security systems as directed.
  • Assist in managing access control and badging acting as a backup to the Office Administrator.
  • Conduct patrols of the facility and assists the safety and security manager in maintaining contract security compliance with post orders.

Incident Response:

  • Serve as a first responder to safety and security incidents, including emergencies, accidents, and security breaches.
  • Investigate security incidents as directed by the security manager, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assist in implementing emergency response plans.

Qualifications

  • Education: Associates or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Security Management, or related degree. Certifications in training and development (e.g., CPTD) or safety and security (e.g., OSHA Trainer, APP, CPP) are highly desirable.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in designing and delivering safety and security training programs, preferably in a corporate or industrial setting.
  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, and relevant safety and security regulations.
  • Skills: Excellent presentation and facilitation skills, strong written and verbal communication, ability to engage diverse audiences, and strong organizational skills.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in using learning management systems (LMS) and Google Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Essential Functions of the Job

  • Must be able to effectively communicate with and train individuals from a wide range of backgrounds on safety and security procedures.
  • Must be able to work with internal and external collaborators to develop training curriculum and materials on safety and security topics.
  • Must be able to utilize safety and security equipment e.g. radio, CCTV, and access control systems to help maintain a safe and secure environment.
  • Must be able to act as a first responder during emergency incidents (e.g. first aid, evacuation, dealing with hostile or agitated individuals) after receiving proper training.
  • Must be able to work a standard 8-hour workday, with flexibility to respond to facility, safety, or security issues as they arise, including after hours or weekends during urgent operational needs.
  • Must be able to travel between company sites to deliver training within the local commuting area.
