Position Summary: First Star Safety seeks a dedicated Field Support Technician to join our Maintenance of Traffic Division and assist in various department needs. This role is crucial in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our roadwork projects by pre-marking sign installation locations that are then verified by a utility locate technician. You will use maps to identify the proposed post/sign location, which supports our installation team. This position also assists with various departmental needs, such as warehouse, delivery and sign shop support. This position requires working outdoors in all weather conditions, problem-solving abilities, and the capability to work independently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Call in OUPS needs.
  • Drive to sites and use maps to pre-mark sign/post location proposals.
  • Communicate locations and other relevant information clearly.
  • Complete documentation and maintain accurate records of work performed.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and report any issues promptly.
  • Assist in warehouse with various duties during downtime.
  • Perform other duties and take on other responsibilities as required.

Performance Expectations/KPIs:

  • Accuracy of Locates:
  • Percentage of pre-locates correctly identified and marked compared to total locates performed.
  • Response Time:
  • Average time taken from receiving a request to arriving on site.
  • Average time to complete a locate request from start to finish.
  • Safety Compliance:
  • Number of safety incidents or near-misses reported.
  • Compliance rate with safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Prior experience in utility locating or construction is preferred but not required.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Good communication skills and ability to interact professionally with all levels of staff and clients.
  • Physical ability to walk over various terrains and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must pass a DOT drug test as part of the employment screening process.
  • Must be able to work overtime when duties cannot be performed within a normal work schedule.

  • Possess all auditory, speaking and communicating capabilities
  • Physical requirements: sitting, standing, walking long distances over a variety of terrain, driving long distances, bending, twisting, climbing, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50 lbs., seeing and reading
