- Location: Remote (Ohio License)
- Duration: 4 Months (Contract to Hire)
- Pay Rate: $27/h
Key Responsibilities:
- Handle all aspects of collections litigation from account review through post-judgment collections.
- Draft, review, and sign legal documents including complaints, pleadings, motions, and judgment entries.
- Conduct legal research and respond to discovery requests.
- Attend court hearings (telephonic and in-person) and conduct pretrial phone conferences.
- Negotiate case resolutions directly with cardholders outside of court when possible.
- Participate in depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trials as needed.
- Ensure compliance with consumer laws and local litigation procedures.
- Document case activity in the company’s matter management system, tracking deadlines and court information.
- Collaborate with attorneys, compliance, and other business units to align strategies and handle consumer-related issues.
Required Qualifications:
- Active Ohio Law License (Required)
- Juris Doctor (JD) Degree
- 5-10 years of relevant legal experience.
- Background in collections litigation (credit card debt, student loans, unpaid credit accounts).
- Law firm experience preferred; in-house counsel from a financial institution is acceptable.
Experience managing high-volume, contested, and high-risk collections matters.
