Job DescriptionBasic Function:
Admission Counselor: Responsible for leading prospective students through the admission, financial aid, and registration processes to matriculate at Wilmington College. Tasks include, but are not limited to, traveling to high schools, attending college fairs, recruiting events on and off campus (including some overnight stays), processing admission files, communicating with perspective students and families, visiting with prospective students and their families, providing campus tours. An admission counselor at Wilmington College is charged with effectively managing a recruitment territory and meeting institutional enrollment goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide effective and professional customer service to prospective students and their families.
- Visit with prospective students (and their families) to provide a welcoming and thorough overview of the opportunities available at Wilmington College
- Provide correspondence to prospective students through all channels of communication including phone, text, email, and parent outreach.
- Develop innovative recruitment strategies and execute those strategies in a collaborative and team building environment.
- Visit, develop, and maintain strong working relationships with high school educators, guidance professionals and access organization leaders.
- Represent Wilmington College enthusiastically at various college fairs and events.
- Attend on and off-campus planned admission recruiting events and programs.
- Assume secondary planning and implementation responsibility for recruitment territory events on and off-campus.
- Utilize integrated database to process admission files, award scholarship and communicate effectively with prospective students.
- Conduct financial aid counseling contacts with students including the verification process and financial aid award review.
- Actively attend and contribute to weekly Admission staff meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Admission and/or Associate Director of Admission and/or Vice President of Enrollment.

- Exhibits necessary level of knowledge and expertise and effectively interfaces with prospective students, their families, the WC campus, and with the admission team.
- Serves as an effective and positive-thinking team member and coordinates professionally with other college departments/employees.
- Strives for excellence in performance of responsibilities, meeting needs of prospective students/families, and building professional relationships with the enrollment team.
- Maintains professional and timely follow-up in all admission and financial aid processes.
- Exhibits a commitment to being a dedicated member of the College community and enrollment team.
- Maintains a consistent professional appearance and positive outlook.
- Conduct is professional and meets office policy standards.
- Enthusiastically knows and observes college and departmental policies, guidelines, and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree: experience working in Higher Education is preferred.
- Experience with diversity outreach and college access in secondary or higher education.
- Evidence of excellent communication and presentation skills, with ability to communicate effectively across cultures with a diverse population.
- Demonstrates organizational ability, effective time-management skills, and ability to prioritize in a multi-task work environment.
- Demonstrates and enjoys collegial interactions with the public and co-workers.
- Good computer skills with background using Microsoft Office, web applications and database experience is preferred.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Ohio driver’s license and willingness to travel for recruitment events.
- Familiarity with private higher education admission and/or financial aid is preferred.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends as schedule and work-load dictates.
