Job Description
Maintains, sharpens, repairs, and assists in the construction of machine shop die segments, drills, cutting tools, and punches to perform high volume fabrication of metal components. Lays out work, operates various machine tools to maintain, repair, or construct various parts, fits, and assembles tooling, and helps to check the function of the die in operation. Works under minimal supervision.
Duties
- Disassembles die segments and machine fixtures for subsequent maintenance and repair.
- Operates lathe, mill, and drill press to perform advanced machine work on tooling.
- Operates lathe and mill to make spare tooling from raw materials.
- Operates surface and drill grinders to flat grind, sharpen various tooling, and punches to proper levels for fabrication of components according to item specifications.
- Investigate operational problems in tooling with minimal supervision.
- Operates surface grinder to perform basic grinding on tooling.
- Reads blueprints specifying dimensions of die details and punches.
- Perform any related duties as required or assigned.
Requirements, Education, Skills
- Basic reading, writing, and shop math for purpose of general literacy.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a Die Maker I or an equivalent tool room job is required.
- Two (2) years of trade school.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Able to read, write, and effectively communicate with managers and other employees both orally and in writing.
- Ability to walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Able to occasionally sit, climb or balance.
- Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
