Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Lab Engineer to join our Material Handling Equipment (MHE) Hardware team. This role focuses on designing and executing hardware testing programs while leading technical initiatives that ensure the reliability and performance of Amazon's material handling systems. This individual will oversee the safe setup, execution, and tear down of all equipment testing in the MHE Hardware Lab in Cincinnati, OH.

Key job responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Execution
•\tDesign, develop, and assemble sophisticated testing rigs for evaluating material handling equipment
•\tCreate and execute comprehensive test plans with ambiguous requirements
•\tLead end-to-end design and delivery of simplified solutions
•\tPerform advanced hardware assembly/rework (complex prototype assembly, device teardowns, BGA re-balling, etc.)
•\tConduct system testing, failure analysis, and performance evaluation
•\tDevelop firmware, software, or test scripts as needed
•\tCreate scalable mechanisms that simplify, optimize, and remove bottlenecks
Project Management & Strategy
•\tLead team projects and drive alignment among stakeholders
•\tProvide inputs to team initiatives and project roadmaps
•\tMake strategic trade-offs between short and long-term needs
•\tContribute to high-level schedule and resource planning
•\tDrive lab improvements and operational excellence initiatives
•\tEnsure compliance with safety protocols and quality standards
Leadership & Mentorship
•\tMentor and develop team members
•\tParticipate actively in the hiring process
•\tProvide technical assessments for promotions
•\tChampion lab management best practices
•\tSet standards for lab operations
Communication & Collaboration
•\tWrite and present technical narratives to leadership
•\tLead technical team reviews
•\tBuild strategic relationships with suppliers and external partners
•\tDrive mindful discussions across cross-functional teams
•\tCommunicate effectively across multiple locales, roles, and functions

About the team
The MHE Hardware team is a new and growing group within OneMHS. Our missions is to create the Amazon Standard MHE Hardware through a combination of in-house R&D and supplier IP partnerships. Our products will be the Amazon standard conveyance, sortation, non-AR robotics and custom mechanical machines and solutions used throughout the Amazon network of sites, including all miles.

This team will be based in Cincinnati, OH but with a few key resources in other facilities or FBD. We will challenge the status quo every day and will insist on the highest standards in both our products and how we create and manage them. We will have the best product line in this industry, and the absolute best team is needed to create it.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS•\tBachelor's degree in Electronics, Mechanics, Product Design, Industrial Design, Manufacturing Technologies or other STEM discipline
•\tMinimum 6-7 years of relevant experience
•\tProven experience in designing and building test fixtures and equipment
•\tStrong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems
•\tProficiency in data acquisition systems and testing instrumentation
•\tExperience with CAD software and mechanical design tools

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS•\tMaster's degree in related technical field
•\tExperience with material handling equipment or robotics systems
•\tKnowledge of industrial automation and controls
•\tProject management experience

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $123,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
