Overview:

Our Cloud Transformation and Operations team is responsible for driving the evolution of cloud capabilities and maintaining the company’s broader data center infrastructure. We’re seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Cloud Engineering and Operations to lead our cloud transformation initiatives, manage hybrid infrastructure, and deliver scalable, secure, and cost-efficient solutions aligned with business priorities.

This leadership role oversees cloud and on-premise hosting environments, network services, and end-user collaboration platforms. The ideal candidate will shape and execute our cloud strategy, guide infrastructure modernization, manage key vendor relationships, and lead high-performing teams through transformational change.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy & Planning

  • Assess current infrastructure and application landscape for cloud readiness.
  • Develop detailed cloud migration strategies, including timelines, cost estimates, and risk mitigation plans.
  • Define cloud architecture standards and select optimal platforms (Azure, AWS, Private Cloud) based on business and technical needs.
  • Promote innovation, Agile collaboration, and DevOps practices across teams.

Cloud Migration & Execution

  • Lead the end-to-end migration of workloads and applications to the cloud.
  • Guide re-architecture, data migration, and infrastructure provisioning with minimal business disruption.
  • Partner cross-functionally with architects, security, and engineering teams to deliver scalable, resilient cloud solutions.
  • Drive continuous delivery, automation, and full lifecycle ownership of services.

Optimization & Operations

  • Optimize cloud infrastructure for performance, cost, and security.
  • Implement cloud-native and hybrid architectures to support modernization.
  • Define and enforce operational policies (SLAs, DR, data retention, security).
  • Oversee incident management, CMDB, asset management, and service delivery.

Stakeholder & Team Leadership

  • Manage vendor relationships, including staff augmentation and contract negotiations.
  • Collaborate with IT, business units, and security teams to align priorities and manage technical debt.
  • Communicate transformation plans, progress, and KPIs to executive stakeholders.
  • Develop talent and ensure teams stay current with cloud technologies and industry trends.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years in cloud architecture and infrastructure (compute, storage, networking, security).
  • Deep experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Private Cloud) and services.
  • Proven leadership in cloud migration (lift-and-shift, re-platforming, re-factoring).
  • 7+ years of experience leading and managing technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree.
  • PMI knowledge and familiarity with project management frameworks.
  • Multi-cloud environment expertise.
  • Azure or AWS certifications.
  • Experience in the gas or utility industry.
  • Understanding of modeling, simulation, and testing best practices.
