Job DescriptionLHH is recruiting a temporary attorney for a 6 month, part-time (20 hours per week) assignment for a downtown Cleveland law firm. The temporary attorney will assist with union/collective bargaining matters. Preference is for on-site work in Cleveland. Remote option for Ohio barred attorneys that reside in Ohio. Responsibilities:
- Strategic advice: Provide legal guidance to clients on collective bargaining strategies, including analyzing contracts, grievance history, and arbitration awards.
- Negotiation: Represent clients (either for management or a union) during collective bargaining negotiations, either at the bargaining table or behind the scenes.
- Contract management: Draft, review, and administer collective bargaining agreements.
- Dispute resolution: Represent clients in grievance and arbitration proceedings.
- Legal compliance: Ensure clients understand and comply with all relevant federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations, such as the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA).
- Client counseling: Educate management on how to properly and effectively administer the CBA and communicate with union officials.
- NLRB proceedings: Represent clients in proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board, such as unit clarification or decertification.
Qualifications:
- Education: A Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and admission to the Ohio state bar.
- Experience: Experience in labor and employment law, particularly with union environments and collective bargaining, is often preferred.
- Legal knowledge: A strong understanding of labor laws, including the NLRA, Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), and others, is crucial.
- Negotiation and communication: Excellent negotiation, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills are essential for navigating heated or complex discussions.
- Analytical and strategic thinking: The ability to analyze complex legal situations, develop strategic approaches, and identify potential high-liability issues is necessary.
