Job Summary

Return Polymers Wilmington Recycling is seeking a Senior Level Maintenance Technician with a strong electrical background and proven ability to troubleshoot complex equipment issues at the hardware level. This role serves as the go-to escalation point when other technicians cannot resolve problems. The ideal candidate has extensive hands-on experience with electrical circuits (24VDC, 110VAC, 480VAC 3-phase), VFD programming and troubleshooting, and is equally comfortable working with mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Basic knowledge of ladder logic and control systems is a plus but not required.

This senior-level technician ensures safe, reliable, and efficient operations while supporting the maintenance team with technical expertise, sound decision-making, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Electrical Troubleshooting Expert
Diagnose and repair electrical issues across 24VDC, 110VAC, and 480VAC 3-phase systems. Safely work in and around electrical cabinets, following all OSHA, NFPA70-E and company electrical safety standards.
  • Drives & Motor Controls
Program, configure, and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and motor controllers to ensure reliable operation.
  • Multi-Disciplinary Troubleshooting
Work unassisted to identify and resolve issues with electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Serve as the senior-level problem solver for escalated issues.
  • Controls & Logic Support
Use a working knowledge of ladder logic and control circuits to assist in diagnosing control and process-related issues (programming not required, but experience is a plus).
  • Preventive & Corrective Maintenance
Lead the completion of preventive and corrective maintenance activities through the CMMS. Collaborate with production and maintenance leadership to prioritize work orders.
  • Documentation & Interpretation
Read and apply electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings to support troubleshooting, installations, and modifications.
  • Mentorship & Collaboration
Support other technicians by sharing expertise, guiding troubleshooting efforts, and working cross-functionally with production, engineering, and contractors.
  • Fabrication & Improvements
Apply minor fabrication, welding, or machining skills to develop practical, reliable solutions for production challenges.

Success in This Role Looks Like

  • Complex electrical or mechanical problems are quickly diagnosed and resolved when escalated.
  • VFDs, motor control systems, and plant equipment are properly configured, programmed, and maintained for reliable operation.
  • Preventive maintenance tasks are executed on time and deliver measurable improvements in up-time.
  • Electrical and mechanical documentation is consistently used and maintained.
  • Recognized as the senior problem solver on the maintenance team; the trusted technician when others get stuck.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience in fast-paced manufacturing.
  • Electrical Expertise: Skilled with troubleshooting 24VDC, 110VAC, and 480VAC 3-phase circuits; extensive experience with troubleshooting breakdowns and finding the root-cause.
  • Mechanical Knowledge: Proficiency with motors, gearboxes, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Controls Knowledge: Familiarity with ladder logic and PLC troubleshooting at the hardware level (programming is a plus, but not required).
  • Documentation: Strong ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
  • Systems & Tools: Proficiency with CMMS (preferred: e-Maintenance), Microsoft Office, and digital troubleshooting tools.
  • Fabrication: Ability to perform minor fabrication, welding, or machining.
  • Soft Skills: Strong decision-making ability, analytical problem solving, and ability to work cross-functionally.

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED (required).
  • Certification, trade school training, or vocational coursework in Electrical, Industrial Maintenance, or related field (preferred).
