Senior Project Architect Job Description:
The Senior Project Architect plays a key leadership role within the firm, overseeing the design and execution of complex architectural projects. This position requires a seasoned professional with strong technical expertise, excellent project management skills, and the ability to mentor junior team members. The Senior Project Architect ensures that project deliverables adhere to quality, regulatory, and design standards while also fostering strong client relationships and contributing to the growth and reputation of the firm.
Senior Project Architect Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage multiple architectural projects concurrently from concept through completion.
- Serve as the technical and design expert on assigned project types, providing strategic input and direction.
- Coordinate activities of junior architects, designers, and consultants to ensure quality and efficiency.
- Oversee the development of detailed architectural drawings, BIM models, specifications, and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable building codes, zoning regulations, standards, and quality expectations.
- Provide mentorship, training, and performance guidance to junior staff to support professional growth and project productivity.
- Develop and maintain project timelines, workflows, and resources to ensure successful project delivery.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients through regular communication, responsiveness, and follow-through.
- Partner with Project Managers on budgets, schedules, client presentations, and team coordination.
- Offer guidance on technical best practices, firm standards, and process improvement.
- Attend industry events and represent the firm within the professional community.
- Participate in or lead community involvement activities is recommended.
Senior Project Architect Qualifications:
- 10+ years of architectural experience.
- Minimum 5 years as a licensed / registered architect.
- Expertise in at least one primary building or project type (e.g., healthcare, education, civic, commercial, residential, etc.).
- Proven leadership experience in managing project teams and external partners.
- Strong proficiency with architectural design and production software, including Revit, AutoCAD, and SketchUp.
- Deep understanding of building systems, construction methods, and documentation standards.
- Excellent communication, coordination, and client management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively, take initiative, and drive results.
Senior Project Architect Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional involvement in industry organizations (AIA, USGBC, etc.).
- Community engagement or volunteer experience.
