Job Title: Activity Therapy Specialist

Location: Correctional Facility – St. Clairsville, OH 43950
Schedule: Full-Time | 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM, Contract role.
Pay: $20-22/hr

Position Summary:

A-Line Staffing is looking for an Activity Therapist responsible for planning, organizing, and facilitating adjunctive therapy services within a correctional facility's residential treatment unit. This role plays a vital part in the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of inmates through structured therapeutic activities and clinical programs. The therapist collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized treatment plans while also overseeing therapeutic recreational environments and inmate work crews.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops and conducts individual and group therapy programs tailored to inmate needs within residential treatment units.

  • Evaluates inmates and creates detailed individual treatment plans with measurable goals and outcomes.

  • Prepares and maintains clinical documentation, including patient assessments, progress notes, and equipment maintenance reports.

  • Oversees inmates performing groundskeeping and recreational maintenance duties.

  • Coordinates and leads structured activities, including team sports, games, arts, and therapeutic recreation.

  • Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings, providing insights and clinical observations to enhance care planning.

  • Provides clinical leadership and direction to lower-level specialists, student interns, and volunteers.

  • Ensures adequate supplies and proper functioning of therapy-related equipment.

  • Completes all mandated training and adheres to institutional and ethical standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required Education & Credentials (any of the following):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy from an accredited institution, plus a 6-month, 1,040-hour internship and MT-BC board certification.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation, including a required clinical practicum.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field with at least 24 months of experience in activity therapy.

  • Associate degree in Recreation or related specialty, with 24 months of experience in activity therapy.

Preferred Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to lead therapeutic and recreational activities in a secure environment.

  • Understanding of behavioral health treatment methods and trauma-informed care.

  • Experience working with justice-involved or institutionalized populations is highly desirable.

  • Effective time management and documentation skills.
