About the Role:
As a Radiation Therapist at Wooster Community Hospital, you will play a critical role in delivering precise radiation treatments to patients diagnosed with cancer and other medical conditions requiring radiotherapy. Your expertise will ensure that each patient receives individualized care plans that maximize treatment effectiveness while minimizing side effects. You will collaborate closely with oncologists, medical physicists, and nursing staff to implement treatment protocols and monitor patient progress throughout the therapy course. This position demands a compassionate approach to patient care, as you will provide education, support, and reassurance to patients and their families during often challenging times. Ultimately, your work will contribute significantly to improving patient outcomes and quality of life through advanced radiation therapy techniques and compassionate care.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited Radiation Therapy program.
- Current certification as a Radiation Therapist (e.g., ARRT certification).
- Valid state licensure to practice as a Radiation Therapist.
- Demonstrated knowledge of radiation safety and protection standards.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a hospital-based radiation oncology department.
- Familiarity with advanced radiation therapy technologies such as IMRT, IGRT, or stereotactic radiosurgery.
- Additional certifications or training in patient care or oncology support services.
- Strong interpersonal skills with experience in patient education and counseling.
- Participation in professional organizations related to radiation therapy.
Responsibilities:
- Administer prescribed radiation treatments to patients accurately and safely according to established protocols.
- Operate and maintain radiation therapy equipment, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
- Collaborate with the oncology team to develop and adjust treatment plans based on patient response and clinical guidelines.
- Monitor patients for side effects and provide appropriate interventions or referrals as needed.
- Document treatment details, patient progress, and any incidents in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
- Educate patients and their families about the treatment process, potential side effects, and post-treatment care.
- Participate in quality assurance programs and continuing education to stay current with advancements in radiation therapy.
