Organization Summary: The Sustainable Ohio Public Energy Council (SOPEC) seeks candidates for the position of EV SW Project Coordinator. SOPEC was established in 2014 and serves member communities and political subdivisions across the State of Ohio. SOPEC has a strong commitment to sustainability and the advancement of the renewable energy economy. SOPEC is governed by the members it serves.
Project Summary: This position stems directly from SOPECs successful application for the U.S. Joint Office of Energy and Transportation Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Discretionary Grant Program (CFI), under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which aims to bridge gaps in the nations EV charging infrastructure. SOPEC's project, the Southeast to Southwest Ohio Responsive Interregional Deployment of Electrification Solutions (RIDES), is designed to significantly bolster EV infrastructure in southeast and southwest Ohio by adding 60 charging stations to fill critical gaps in charging accessibility that will support regional travel and tourism across southern Ohio, emphasizing equity, accessibility, safety, environmental impact, and economic development.
Position Summary: The position is specifically focused on assisting with the expansion of 25 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations within the City of Dayton, planned in the RIDES project. While providing capacity and support to the federally funded infrastructure project, this role will be supported by a complimentary foundation grant. The EV SW Project Coordinator, in coordination with SOPECs EV Project Manager and Technical Expert, other key SOPEC staff, and City of Dayton personnel, will support RIDES project needs primarily in Dayton, while also remaining available to assist with similar project needs at other sites across the region on an as-needed basis. This flexibility will help ensure the successful achievement of project goals and objectives.
Job Description: Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Support the SOPECs EV Project Manager and Technical Expert in delivering project objectives of the RIDES project in Dayton;
- Serve as a liaison to the City of Dayton for the RIDES project;
- Support project needs that ensure grant program requirements, federal compliance, and project standards are being met and upheld;
- In coordination with SOPEC RIDES project staff, support the City of Dayton Sustainability Office team with public outreach and engagement with appropriate stakeholders for the planned 25 EV charging stations in Dayton;
- In coordination with RIDES project activities, attend neighborhood and/or other community meetings to support education and engagement efforts about the importance of charging infrastructure and solicit feedback about charging location sites in Dayton;
- In coordination with key SOPEC personnel, support the development of project guidance documents outlining requirements and specifications for vendors, contractors, property owners, stakeholders, and the general public;
- Support the tracking and documentation efforts of grant-related performance measures;
- Conduct site evaluations, field surveys, and assessments;
- Coordinate communications with internal teams, external stakeholders, contractors, and community members to ensure project objectives are understood and met;
- Ensure all activities comply with federal grant guidelines and requirements; and
- Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education and Experience/Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited educational institution in engineering, sustainability, communications, construction management, public administration, business administration, urban planning, or another relevant field, and at least 1 year of related experience in project and/or program management;
- Candidate must live in or near, or be willing to relocate to Dayton, Ohio;
- Candidate must have a valid drivers license and vehicle to travel throughout Ohio as required;
- Experience with community engagement and managing relationships across multiple organizations for project development and implementation; and

Responsibility: The EV SW Project Coordinator will be employed by SOPEC and report to the appropriate team members. Highly responsible, entry-level position with some independence requiring judgment and sensitivity to the organization and public relations.
Personal Work Relationships: The EV SW Project Coordinator will have daily contact with SOPEC and City of Dayton staff, as well as interactions with the general public, project vendors, contractors, and consultants in connection with the RIDES project.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in a combination of settings, including a normal office setting, remote locations, and frequent on-site visits throughout the Dayton area to assess project locations. The position may also require attendance at local government meetings and coordination with stakeholders. Regular driving and travel time within the region are required. Some work may occur outside of normal business hours depending on project needs and meeting schedules.
Compensation: This is a fully grant-funded position offering an annual fixed salary of $72,800. The position is also benefits-eligible as outlined in the SOPEC Employee Handbook.
