Job DescriptionDescription:

Overview: Quality Technician position is responsible for inspecting products by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities.

  • Ability to read manufacturing drawings
  • Performs hourly checks and records information.
  • Verifies that the tags on the unit match the pieces being inspected.
  • Obtain the Inspection Data Sheets necessary for daily inspection from the Quality supervisor.
  • Verifies MWF Part Print requirements are entered on the daily paperwork used for line checks.
  • Prepares for Forge and Extrusion line hourly checks.
  • Verifies that calibrations are current on all gaging used to perform checks.
  • Prepares Inspection through plex (not everyone uses Plex).
  • Identify and report non-conformances to the appropriate personnel
  • Performs in-process inspection and ensuring that proper checks are being performed in timely fashion
  • Performs tests on Magnetic Particle Unit
  • Reports any Quality or functional problem to the shift supervisor immediately.
  • Shall be able to read measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers, indicators, height gauges, etc…
  • Uses any or all of the equipment listed to perform the inspection functions.
  • In performing dimensional checks watches for obvious visual defects such as cracks, pinches, rings, part number error, or heat code error.
  • Places a nonconforming tag and moves discrepant parts to the designated hold area for disposition.
  • May be required to prepare parts for lab samples.
  • Obtains and prepares material for initial sample requirements, and packages material properly for shipment (PPAP’s).
  • Cleans work area, machines, tools, and equipment.
  • Follows all safety and plant rules and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience:

· High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.

· Vocational school or apprenticeship is a plus.

· One to three months’ related experience and/or training preferred.

Communication Skills:

  • Ability to read and write simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to effectively report data and job specific information as needed.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to perform basic mathematics understanding decimal functions.

Computer Skills:

  • Ability to navigate basic technology including but not limited to use of digital self-service platforms, time clocks, and other systems where applicable.

Additional Preferred Skills and Experience:

· Must have good mechanical aptitude.

· Must be able to learn all inspection equipment necessary to perform duties.

  • Radius gages
  • Micrometers
  • Verniers (hand and height)
  • Sonoflux Unit and all related test equipment
  • De-mag Unit
  • Inspection Station
  • Dial Indicators
  • Hand length gages.
  • Grinders (hand and floor mount)
  • Hammer and Stamps
  • Operate saw for lab sample preparations.
  • Brinell Test

Physical Demands:

  • Stand, walk, push, pull, squat, bend, and reach during shifts.
  • Use carts, dollies, cranes, and jacks to transport material if needed.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and or move up to 40 lbs.
  • Climbing ladders and stairs to reach work at potential heights of 30ft or more.
  • Navigate narrow walkways, confined spaces, and overhead mezzanines.
  • Tolerate potentially extreme temperature fluctuations impacted by weather and machinery.
  • Acclimate to high noise and vibration levels in workspaces.
  • Wear and adhere to all PPE guidelines including hard hats, protective eye wear, ear plugs, and approved footwear with metatarsal and steel toe safeguards

Work Environment:

The Quality Technician will work within our facility interacting with historic machinery which often involves proximity to heat, noise, debris, conveyance systems and other potentially dangerous equipment. The Quality Technician will encounter high levels of floor and overhead traffic due to material transportation throughout the facility which can cause high levels of vibration and airborne disturbances. There are areas of paved and unpaved walkway, active shipping lanes and occasionally standing water to be cautious of.
