Who We Are
YWCA of Greater Cleveland recognizes the challenges to safe affordable housing and every day our staff work to navigate these barriers. Our team provides compassionate, trauma-informed care while ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all guests.
After taking over the site operations in 2018, Norma Herr still remains Cleveland’s only low-barrier emergency shelter for adult women aged 18-80, serving over 200 or more guests each night providing each person with access to safe shelter and up to 3 meals a day, 365 days a year.
YOUR Impact As A Compassion Navigator
The Compassion Navigatorplays a vital role in providing direct support to shelter guests, maintaining a safe and inclusive space, and assisting with daily shelter operations. This full-time position requires strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to serving individuals experiencing crisis without judgement.
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide direct support to shelter guests, including check-ins and basic needs assistance.
- Complete intake packets, incident reports, shift reports, and other documentation as required.
- Offer emotional support and crisis intervention, connecting guests to appropriate services.
- Participate in basic shelter training, including trauma-informed care principles.
- Assist in daily shelter operations, including meal distribution, laundry, donations, and maintaining cleanliness.
Key Competencies & Qualifications:
- Proficiency in de-escalation techniques.
- Ability to manage computer and communication systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills in crisis situations.
- Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
Additional Information:
- This is an on-site position requiring individuals to work 2nd shift 3pm - 11pm as scheduled.
- Prior experience in social services, crisis intervention, or shelter settings is required.
