The RoleReporting to senior legal leadership, the Associate Counsel will provide practical, solutions-oriented legal advice across a broad range of matters, supporting a complex enterprise with multiple affiliated entities.What You’ll Do

  • Provide legal research, analysis, and strategic guidance on employment, compliance, risk management, contracts, and litigation matters
  • Represent the organization in administrative proceedings and agency matters, and partner closely with outside counsel on litigation
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of agreements and operational documents
  • Develop and advise on internal policies and procedures impacting organizational operations
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to cross-functional stakeholders including HR, finance, leadership, and professional staff
  • Respond to subpoenas, regulatory inquiries, and information requests
  • Support enterprise-wide initiatives and special projects led by senior legal leadership

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong working knowledge of state and federal employment law
  • Excellent judgment with the ability to deliver clear, practical, business-focused legal advice
  • Proven drafting, negotiation, and issue-spotting skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with professionals across all levels of the organization
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly valued:
    • Employment and labor matters
    • Workers’ compensation
    • Corporate governance
    • Physician or professional contracting
    • Immigration
    • Consent and regulatory issues involving minors
  • Familiarity with healthcare regulatory frameworks (HIPAA, Stark, Anti-Kickback, False Claims, Medicare/Medicaid) is a plus

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Licensed to practice law (or eligible for licensure) in Ohio
  • Minimum of 5 years of litigation experience; employment-focused experience strongly preferred
  • Prior in-house experience is a plus, but not required—strong firm attorneys are encouraged to apply
  • Experience working with insurers or risk pools is advantageous
