Job DescriptionDescription:

Summary: The Crane Operator is responsible for transferring material by performing the following duties.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•Obtains weight capacities of equipment including lifting attachments and ensures that loads being lifted do not exceed these capacities.

•Loads and unloads trucks as needed.

•Loads extrusion lines.

•Moves materials from isle ways such as empty or full pallets, stock or any other objects that may be creating an obstruction and moves them to their proper location.

•Weighs containers empty or full as required.

•Removes old material from production lines and the bypass area when a job or heat change takes place.

•Sets up backlog stock and straightener as needed.

•Obtains information regarding the units running on the shift, the proper count, packaging, and defects to look for.

•Checks with the stack count list, for proper piece count and type of packaging needed.

•Prepares an Inspection time ticket before the end of the shift.

•Transfers material as needed.

•Organizes storage areas by part number and heat codes.

•Maintains and operates automated stretch wrap machine.

•Ensures that material is properly tagged before moving.

•Verifies proper containers are at the production and secondary operations.

•Maintains part number and heat code integrity at all times.

•Moves chip, dust, and any other scrap material to proper areas for scrapping.

•Reports any problems either mechanical or safety to foreman as soon as possible.

•Cleans work area, machines, tools, and equipment.

•Follows all safety and plant rules and regulations.

•Performs other duties as assigned


Requirements:


Supervisory Responsibilities:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.


Education and/or Experience:

•High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.

•One to three months of related experience and/or training preferred.


Key Competencies

Communication Skills:

•Ability to read and write simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

•Ability to effectively report data and job specific information as needed.


Mathematical Skills:

•Ability to perform basic mathematics.


Computer Skills:

•Ability to navigate basic technology including but not limited to use of digital self-service platforms, time clocks, and other systems where applicable.


Additional Preferred Skills and Experience:

•Previous experience in manufacturing environments or a mechanical aptitude.

•Must have good hand-eye coordination and have excellent attention to detail.

•Previous crane operating experience is ideal.

•Satisfactory completion of Bennett Mechanical Comprehension Test Preferred.

Physical Demands:

•Stand, walk, push, pull, squat, bend, and reach during shifts.

•Use carts, dollies, cranes and jacks to transport material if needed.

•Must be able to regularly lift and or move up to 40 lbs.

•Climbing ladders and stairs to reach work at potential heights of 30ft or more.

•Navigate narrow walkways, confined spaces and overhead mezzanines.

•Tolerate potentially extreme temperature fluctuations impacted by weather and machinery.

•Acclimate to high noise and vibration levels in workspaces.

•Wear and adhere to all PPE guidelines including hard hats, protective eye wear, ear plugs, and approved footwear with metatarsal and steel toe safeguards.


What we offer:

•Payrate: $22.62/hour - $24.62/hour

•Full-Time employment

•Shift Premiums: 2nd shift ($1.10/per hour), 3rd shift ($1.00/per hour)

•Unionized facility with a probationary period of 696 working hours (approximately 4 months)

Work Environment:

The Crane Operator will work within our facility interacting with historic machinery which often involves proximity to heat, noise, debris, conveyance systems and other potentially dangerous equipment. The Crane Operator will encounter high levels of floor and overhead traffic due to material transportation throughout the facility which can cause high levels of vibration and airborne disturbances. There are areas of paved and unpaved walkways, active shipping lanes and occasionally standing water to be cautious of.
