Job Description

A leading provider of robotic automation and custom integration systems is seeking a dynamic Director of Project Management to lead its project execution function. This high-impact role will oversee the Project Management Office (PMO), drive cross-functional alignment, and lead delivery of complex, customer-focused automation projects. The ideal candidate will be a strategic and hands-on leader with experience managing capital equipment programs, technical project teams, and direct customer engagements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the Project Management Office (PMO), building long-term team capability and succession planning.

  • Establish and maintain standardized project management practices, tools, and KPIs across the Automation Division.

  • Drive cross-functional collaboration between Engineering, Production, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams to ensure cohesive execution.

  • Personally manage high-complexity, high-visibility projects as needed to ensure delivery on time and within budget.

  • Serve as the executive sponsor for key customer and supplier programs, participating in reviews, escalations, and executive-level engagements.

  • Act as the point of escalation for at-risk projects and lead resolution efforts across departments.

  • Own and enforce the company’s phase-gate project execution model, including scope, schedule, budgeting, and risk assessment.

  • Monitor and report on program financials (ETC/EAC) and project portfolio performance metrics.

  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives using lessons learned and root cause analysis.

  • Partner with Sales and Applications Engineering during pre-sale planning and ensure smooth handoffs into execution.

  • Lead communication with key customer stakeholders, representing the company’s delivery capability and commitment to success.

  • Manage project scope changes and negotiations while balancing customer satisfaction and internal business goals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Project Management, or Business required.

  • PMP certification required.

  • 12–15 years of experience managing complex automation or capital equipment projects.

  • Proven leadership experience managing project managers and cross-functional delivery teams.

  • Strong knowledge of custom automation systems, robotics, PLCs, machine safety, and mechanical integration.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project (or equivalent), Excel, and project reporting platforms.

  • Demonstrated success delivering projects in a high-mix, engineer-to-order manufacturing environment.

  • Willingness to travel up to 15% for customer visits and site support.

Preferred Traits:

  • Executive presence with strong communication and presentation skills.

  • Composed and decisive under pressure; strong problem-solving instincts.

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and structured in program execution.

  • Collaborative leadership style that builds trust and accountability.

  • Ability to influence across departments and balance immediate needs with long-term strategy.
