We are looking for a skilled, motivated Paralegal or Legal Assistant to join our busy Family Law Firm located in Lorain, Ohio.

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of working experience as a paralegal or legal assistant.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and appropriate formatting of documents.
  • Proficiency with technology, including Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel, and the ability to multitask.
  • Strong organizational and follow-through skills, and detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize work with accuracy and efficiency while staying focused and calm under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently, take responsibility, take initiative, problem-solve using sound judgment, and handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Notary Public a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Communication
    • Primarily responsible for incoming phone calls and returning missed calls.
    • Client
      • New clients – Prescreen
        • Schedule consultations
      • Current clients – determine their need.
    • Court – set hearings.
    • Other – opposing counsel, etc.
  • Front office and administrative functions
  • Maintain Attorney’s calendar.
  • Prepare and email Client Intake Form and Fee Agreement to new clients / returning clients.
  • Set up new client files.
    • Online file
    • Paper file
  • Scan all client-related documents into client’s online file.
    • Verify that all hearings noted on Court Orders are documented on Attorney’s calendar.
  • Maintain filing into client's paper file.
  • Complete file closeout process for closed cases.
  • Prepare drafts for Attorney review:
    • Dissolution Documents
    • Divorce Documents
    • Pleadings
    • Motions
  • Prepare Court packets for filing.
  • Discovery – follow-up to ensure timely submission.
    • Assist client with Discovery responses.
    • Organize and scan all Discovery documents into client's Discovery folder.
  • Affidavit of Income and Expense – follow up to ensure timely submission.
    • Assist client with completing the document.
    • Organize and scan all related documents.
  • Light office cleaning.

Job Type: Full-time, Monday-Friday (No weekends)

Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour.
