Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Machine Setup: Loading the workpiece material into the machine and setting up fixtures, jigs, or other tooling to hold it in place. Ensuring everything is secure and properly aligned.
- Tool Selection & Installation: Choosing the correct tools (cutters, drills, taps, etc.) for the job and installing them into the CNC machine’s tool holders. They also ensure the tool offsets are set correctly.
- Calibration: Ensuring the machine’s coordinate system is properly calibrated. This includes setting the home position, datum points, and other machine parameters.
- Material Handling: Ensuring the correct material is loaded (metal, plastic, etc.) and verifying it meets the necessary quality specifications.
- Machine Operation: Running initial test cuts or prototypes to check the setup and verify that the machine is working within the required tolerances.
- Adjustments: Fine-tuning machine parameters, like speed and feed rates, and adjusting the tooling or setup if any errors are noticed during the initial run.
Skills & Knowledge Required:
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of CNC machine operations, CAD/CAM software, and G-code.
- Attention to Detail: Precision is everything in CNC machining, so being meticulous is key.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot issues related to programming, tooling, or machine malfunctions.
- Measurement Tools: Familiarity with using tools like calipers, micrometers, and CMMs (Coordinate Measuring Machines) to check part accuracy.
- Safety Protocols: Understanding safety procedures related to machine operation and handling materials.
Tools/Software Used:
- CAD/CAM Software: SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Mastercam, Edgecam, Siemens NX, etc.
- CNC Machines: Vertical/Horizontal Milling Machines, Lathes, Multi-axis machines, CNC Routers, EDM machines, etc.
- Measuring Instruments: Micrometers, calipers, CMMs, and height gauges.
