Fleet Mechanic Job Description
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Automotive Mechanic to join our Turner Team. The ideal candidate performs inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on the company's vehicles and equipment to ensure they are safe and operational. Key duties include diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical issues, replacing parts, maintaining service records, communicating with fleet managers, and potentially fabricating parts. This role requires strong mechanical skills, knowledge of diagnostic tools, and the ability to maintain safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnosis and Repair: Identify and fix problems in various systems, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of vehicles and equipment.
- Preventive Maintenance: Perform routine services such as oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and fluid checks and flushes.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed, including parts used.
- Parts Management: Assist with ordering parts, managing inventory, and ensuring necessary materials are in stock.
- Technical Skills: Utilize electronic diagnostic equipment, interpret service manuals, and may involve fabricating parts or performing welding.
- Communication: Inform the fleet manager or supervisor about the condition of the fleet and the need for repairs.
- Field Support: Respond to road calls to perform emergency repairs and ensure the continued operation of the fleet.
Essential Skills & Qualities
- Mechanical Aptitude: Strong ability to understand and repair various vehicle systems, especially Chrysler/Dodge products. Conduct repairs on engines, transmissions, suspensions, and alignments.
- Diagnostic Skills: Proficiency with electronic diagnostic tools and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
- Attention to Detail: Crucial for accurate diagnosis, precise repairs, and thorough record-keeping.
- Safety Awareness: Commitment to following safety procedures and maintaining a safe work environment.
- Physical Stamina: Capable of performing heavy manual labor, including lifting and working in various conditions.
Other Duties
- Interpret schematics and technical manuals to troubleshoot vehicle problems
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating clearly about a vehicle's needs
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace
- Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality service
- Utilize hand tools and power tools effectively to complete repairs
- Knowledge of welding techniques for auto body repair is a plus
- Job involves us of a hydraulic lift and crane hoist
- Other duties as assigned
Typical Work Environment
- Work Schedule: Standard work hours are 7:30am to 4pm with 30 minutes for lunch (required). A different schedule may be possible, with manager’s consent and support.
- On-Site Garage: Most daily work would take place in Turner’s on-site garage
- Field Repairs: You may also be required to travel to locations to perform repairs on disabled vehicles.
- Varying Conditions: While the role most often involves working indoors, our garage has limited heating and no cooling (other than fans), so temperatures may vary.
