GENERAL SUMMARY:
The duties of a HVAC/Electrician Technician involve inspecting, installing, maintaining, and repairing critical HVAC and electrical systems on a historic locomotive and locomotive equipment to meet and exceed Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations and Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad expectations for positive, safe and reliable customer experience while maintaining a clean and respectable fleet appearance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for troubleshooting, analysis, fault detection and repair of locomotive and train car HVAC and electrical systems, sub-systems, and components of up to 480VAC and 600VDC.
- Perform modifications from drawings, prints or HVAC and electrical systems on locomotives and train cars as assigned.
- Perform fault detection and diagnostics using microprocessor and diagnostic equipment.
- Install and maintain electrical wiring and equipment such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), electrical equipment.
- Installs and maintains electrical wiring and equipment, such as motors, generators, air-conditioning units, electrical outlets, and lighting fixtures of railroad locomotives.
- Installing, maintaining, and repairing commercial ventilation and air conditioning systems and equipment.
- Identifying maintenance risks on equipment.
- Diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults for commercial HVAC systems.
- Measures, cuts, threads, bends, assembles, and installs conduits that connect to control panels and junction boxes, using hacksaw, pipe benders, pipe-threading tools, and other hand tools.
- Splices wires and solders connections to fixtures, outlets, and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations, and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). Comply with the guidelines set forth by the FRA on Personal Blue Signal Protection of Workers.
- Inspect equipment components for compliance with FRA, Association of American Railroads (AAR), APTA (American Public Transportation Association) and CVSR standards.
- Perform emergency repairs to equipment.
- Performs periodic and annual inspections and understands FRA regulations pertaining to inspections.
- Operate light and heavy cranes, forklifts, car moving equipment, and other various vehicles.
- Operate electrical and gas welding equipment to join a variety of metals and alloys; operate acetylene torches for cutting and/or shaping metal parts such as aluminum, cast iron, steel.
- Maintain written and computer records for maintenance and repairs as required.
- Ensure the safe, reliable, and enjoyable working conditions of the CVSR volunteer staff.
- Additional duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 1-3 years experience as a licensed HVAC technician in an industrial, commercial, or locomotive environment.
- Welding skills (preferred).
- Must be 18 years of age.
- High School diploma or equivalent GED.
- Valid state-issued drivers license.
- Must meet all medical fitness for duty requirements for the position.
- Using measuring devices and understanding visual displays.
- Frequent lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 75 lbs. with or without assistance.
- Displays good hand-eye coordination.
- Computer Skills.
- Able to work outdoors in extreme all-weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet). Able to perform work on uneven surfaces, frequently climb ladders and on/off equipment, and work from various heights including making repairs on top of locomotives and railcars.
- Able to work in conditions that include loud noise and fumes, work on and around heavy and moving machinery, bend, walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hand tools.
- Follow safety policies and procedures and wear the required personal protective equipment required for the job in a safe manner.
- Work a 40-hour work week, with flexible hours and overtime as needed.
- Demonstrate good teamwork skills and maintain positive interactions with others.
- Displays good verbal, reading comprehension and writing skills.
