The Greening Youth Foundation (GYF) is proud to partner with the National Park Service (NPS) through the InternXL Internship Program, offering impactful internship experiences for students and recent graduates from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). This initiative is part of our ongoing mission to build pathways for young Black professionals in public service and conservation careers.
We are currently recruiting&nbsp;10 InternXL interns&nbsp;to serve at culturally and historically significant NPS sites, where they will support interpretation, education, descendant and community engagement, and preservation work.
 
Position Description:
This position will work within Cuyahoga Valley National Park's (CUVA) Facilities and Project Management Division to perform limited civil engineering/landscape architecture tasks in a developmental capacity utilizing appropriate technology tools with a focus on CUVA's main visitor center area, Boston Mills Visitor Center. The intern will work on the Boston Mills Improvement Project with the park's civil engineer and Division Chief to evaluate opportunities to improve the circulation partners, open space use, and interpretation opportunities including introducing visitors to African American history and experiences in the Cuyahoga Valley. CUVA opened the Boston Mills Visitor Center, along with a new parking lot, on the west side of the Cuyahoga River in 2019 to provide a central location for first time visitors orient themselves and be introduced to the Cuyahoga Valley's history. The location also includes the Boston Depot, where visitors can access the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railway (CVSR). CVSR currently connects the park into the City of Akron and there is an ongoing study to extend CVSR service into the City of Cleveland, where over 20% of the residents do not have personal vehicles. Prior to the new visitor center opening, visitor use was centered on the east side of the Cuyahoga River at an older visitor center, which is now a store, and the Ohio &amp; Erie Canal Towpath Trail. With the focus of visitor use shifted to the west side of the river, and a new pedestrian bridge over the river, there is now the opportunity to reimagine and refocus the open spaces, trail system, and an old parking lot on the east side. The intern will work the park's Civil Engineer as well Resource Management, Interpretation and Visitor Services, and Resource and Visitor Protection on this project to incorporate their subject matter expertise in the design. This work will require research into current standards for accessibility, paving materials, cost estimating, traffic control, and signage as well as cultural resources and permitting needs. The deliverables/work products will include conceptual level plans of alternatives, cost estimates, scope of work write ups, and product research. In addition to the Boston Mills Circulation Improvement Project, this position will have opportunities to the assist the park's civil engineer on a wide variety of projects including reconstruction of pedestrian boardwalks, utility improvements, trail improvements, bridge inspections, and records research and cataloging.

<li>Safely removing unwanted, dead or damaged trees.</li>
<li>Monitoring and maintaining plant health.</li>
<li>Maintains adherence to safe and good practices following OSHA specifications.</li>
<li>Work with ownership regarding safe and efficient practices for trimming and tree removal.</li>
<li>Evaluates and safeguards team members and public from hazards in and around the work area. Sets up warning signs, flags, barriers, etc.</li>
<li>Possess ability to lift, move, and maneuver up to 50 pounds.</li>

Requirements:

<li>Prior related experience with a tree service company or department.</li>
<li>Knowledge of established tree industry hazards, standards, practices, procedures and techniques.</li>

<li>Problem solving skills with excellent leadership skills and be able to handle stressful situations along with being able to multi-task.</li>
<li>Organizational skills.</li>

RESPONSIBILITIES
We’re seeking a motivated Assistant Owner’s Rep Project Manager to support a high-visibility data center project in Columbus, OH. Assist in managing local on-site implementation of client’s program involving upgrade/retrofit projects and helps administer this site-based role managing Moves, Adds, Retrofits, Changes &amp; Utility Systems and miscellaneous MEP Infrastructure works for the entire site. All works are performed in the context of a being an Owners Representative. 
On-Site Project Administration
<ul>
<li>Manage the upgrades/retrofit construction project program process administration across the data center portfolio. Focus is on ability to manage multiple project at one time over multiple locations globally.</li>
<li>Work upfront to forecast program budget, cash flow and commitment and get approval on spend working with the client’s Cost Control team</li>
<li>Update quarterly forecast, budget spend status and get management approval on funding requests</li>
<li>Drive improvement in the upgrade/retrofit program processes and documentation/ workflow through stakeholder feedback and/or based on measurement of important metrics</li>
</ul>
Data Center MEP Infrastructure Upgrade/Retrofit Program Management
A. Pre-construction / Design / Planning
<ul>
<li>Work with Contractor(s) / A&amp;E design team to create and establish the Master Project Schedule, based on the Critical Path and key milestones</li>
<li>Create and establish the Master Project Budget, including soft costs and hard costs</li>
<li>Support Contractor pre-qualification, bid solicitation, bid analysis and recommendations</li>
<li>Support Contract negotiation, typically in concert with the Client’s PM and legal counsel, including establishment of all GC “business terms” including mark-ups, fees, insurance, labor rates, escalation, etc.</li>
<li>Coordinate Design Team activities</li>
<li>Manage the A&amp;E to the contract deliverables</li>
<li>Coordinate Constructability review of the project documents</li>
<li>Provide / gather cost estimates working with subs and other vendors for scope gaps/changes</li>
<li>Coordinate Value Engineering effort</li>
<li>Produce Cash flow projections on a monthly or quarterly basis as required </li>

B. Construction
<ul>
<li>Manage General Contractor and other directly contracted vendors by working through onsite Construction Management team</li>
<li>Manage Cost / Change Control, including change order review, negotiation, &amp; recommendations, delay analysis - At program level</li>
<li>Coordinate Value Engineering</li>
<li>Oversee Budget Management and Tracking</li>
<li>Schedule monitoring, tracking and analysis</li>
<li>Oversee document control (track and coordinate addenda, bulletins, new drawing sets, clarifications, etc) process is in place</li>
<li>Oversee QA/QC is being followed and report any issues/gaps</li>
<li>Oversee tracking of all key project documents, including submittals, RFI’s, change orders, invoices and payments, lien releases, etc is being enforced</li>
<li>Oversee coordination and management of all Owner-direct vendors working with supply chain and consultants</li>
<li>Provide periodic review of safe construction practices by GC and vendors and timely report on deviations from site specific safety plan</li>
</ul>
C. Project Close Out / Fit-Up
<ul>
<li>Initiate close out process prior to project completion, typically two to three months in advance with Document Control team, setting timelines and responsibilities</li>
<li>Establish close out documentation requirements. Ensure receipt of all close out documents until completion, including warranties, as-builts, O&amp;M manuals, etc.</li>
<li>Manage punch list, substantial completion and final completion process through onsite Construction management team</li>
<li>Negotiate, resolve and close out any outstanding change orders, quality issues or disputes</li>
<li>Process and track any final invoices, payment applications, retention payments, etc</li>
<li>Prepare and submit final project accounting and budget</li>
<li>Assist client in scheduling, coordination and management of all Owner-direct vendors, consultants.</li>
</ul>
 Requirements:
 WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL 
<ul>
<li>A Bachelor of Science degree in one of the following: Business Administration, Construction Management, Construction Project Management, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Architecture</li>
<li>Minimum 5-10 years of relevant experience in a PM role</li>
<li>GC experience preferred / solid construction background</li>
<li>Mission-critical (data center specific) experience</li>
<li>Local to the site (within 150 miles)</li>
<li>Cross-functional team participation in a high-tech, dynamic environment</li>
<li>Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills.</li>
<li>Proven track record in delivering high-quality programs</li>
<li>Passionate about solving complex challenges within aggressive timelines</li>
<li>Detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and quickly-changing environment.</li>
